Activity 1: General Discussion

            Teacher explains a situation to the students

Suppose you are having a guest for today in your home. You need to make good arrangements in order to welcome them. Your mother has to do many works like shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. It is very difficult for her to finish all the works at time by herself. So, she has given some of the work to you and to your siblings. Your mother was able to complete all works in a timely manner and your guest was super happy.

             Teacher asks the following question to the students
              How did the mother get the job done in a timely manner?

On the basis of responses from students, teacher introduces the topic ‘Delegation of Authority’ and explains using Blackboard.

                 Delegation of Authority
      It is the downward transfer of authority from 
      a superior to the subordinate. It enables the
      managers to distribute their workload to 
      others.

 
 
 Activity 2: Group Discussion

Teacher divides the class into several groups and provides the following case to each of them.
CASE
The purchase manager of the firm assigns some of the duties like procuring canteen materials and maintenance of job cards to various section heads. He was relieved of volume of work just to concentrate on procurement of quality materials to production and timely issue of quality materials to manufacturing.
 ·     By assigning his duties to subordinates what does the production manager expects?
·  Is it necessary to give authority to the subordinates in performing the duties assigned to them?
·  Discuss the importance of Delegation of Authority in the Organization.

           Teacher provides the following lead points for discussion:

Ø  Efficiency
Ø  Growth and Development
Ø  Co-ordination

 Teacher gives necessary guidelines for discussion, ensures active participation of each students in the discussion, clarifies the doubts through examples.

           With the help of lead points students makes active discussion

           Based on the responses from student’s teacher explains the importance of delegation of authority by properly using the Power Point Presentation.

          Teacher makes modifications in the points presented by the students.

Students explained, mother divided the work and given to children. They completed the work at time. This helped her to finish the work in a timely manner

Blended learning Blended learning refers to the planned implementation of a learning model that integrates student-centred, traditional in-class learning with other flexible learning methodologies using mobile and web-based online ,especially collaborative approaches in order to realise strategic advantages for the education system. “ Blended learning should be viewed as a pedagogical approach that combines the effectiveness and socialisation opportunities of the classroom with the technologically enhanced active learning possibilities of the online environment, rather than a ratio of delivery modalities.” Dziuban, Hartman and Moskal (2004) Blended learning strategies vary according to the discipline, the year level, student characteristics and learning outcomes, and have a student-centred approach to the learning design.   Blended learning can increase access and flexibility for learners, increase level of active learning, and achieve better student experiences and outcomes.   F
