Grading system

Grading system
When students level of performance are classified into a few classification units using letter grades, the system of assessment is called grading system is considered to be more scientific way of evaluation as it solves the problem of borderline cases by including all pupils falling with in a same class or grade . It will be reliable if the classification is made on 5point, 7point or 9 point scale. Grading system is a method of communicating the measures of achievement.
Types of Grading
1.      Direct Grading
It the process by which any given phenomenon with respect to each individual of the group concerned with adjusted by the evaluation in terms of the most appropriate letter grade only without assigning scores.
2.      Indirect Grading
It is a process of awarding grades through marks. The marks are awarded to the individual questions on the basis of prescribed marking scheme and the mark score. The conversion of marks into grades, which is a technical matter, is to be done in two ways. They are absolute grading and relative grading.
a.       Absolute Grading
In this system some fixed range of score is determined in advance for each grade. On the basis of score obtained by a candidate in a subject is converted to the grade concerned. It is a type of criterion referenced learning
b.      Relative Grading
Here the ranges cannot be prefixed in terms of raw scores. To each test it will vary according to the arithmetic mean and standard deviation of the scores. Since the grade is determined in time with the relative position of scores within the  group concerned the system is known as relative grading.
